Coconut Oil Benefits

We have been meaning to write this blog for a while now. We have done similar to this one on spirulina and apple cider vinegar. We believe that the health benefits of all three are phenomenal. As we have already covered the other two let’s crack on with the benefits of coconut oil.

Coconut oil is a really powerful oil. THere’s a whole range of unbelievable uses for it that continue to surprise the health industry. It still surprises me when you see other people posting about it in things that you would never expect to be able to use it for. If Ghandi had to promote a product of choice, I think it would be coconut oil. However, there are a lot of companies on the market that have jumped on the band wagon and started selling coconut oil. There are certain ones that contain GMOs so stay clear of products like that. Always opt for cold pressed organic coconut oil. The good standard coconut oil use to be really expensive to purchase. However,  places like Aldi now stock this for really cheap and is both cold pressed and organic. [spacer height=”20px”]

So what is Coconut Oil and where does it come from?

Coconut oil or copra oil as otherwise known as is a very versatile oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts harvested from the coconut palm. [spacer height=”20px”]

Who can use Coconut Oil?

Honestly, this oil can be used for anything and anyone. Whether it’s for cooking with or using it on the babies bottom to soothe skin. Other ways of using this oil are:

  • Improves digestion
  • Increases HDL and lowers LDL cholesterol
  • Helps burn fat
  • Use as a moisturiser
  • Reduces cellulite
  • Soothes chapped lips
  • Balances hormones
  • Buttering your toast
  • Hair styling

Shall I cook with Coconut Oil?

A lot of people in the health community claim they cook in this oil rather than other oils such as olive and rapeseed. My honest opinion is that you shouldn’t cook in any oils. The reason being is that oils do not contain huge amount of nutritional value anyway so cooking in them with only lessen your chances of gaining some nutrients. Yes it might be a better option than other oils like rapeseed but surely you want the most of of it as you can. My advice would be to add it to smoothies to gain the most nutrients as you can. If you can stomach eating coconut oil on its own then do that but good luck as I know I couldn’t. [spacer height=”20px”]

Where do you get Coconut Oil?

Most reputable health shops sell it but as I keep mentioning just make sure that you only buy the higher quality stuff. Most supermarkets will sell organic coconut oil now as well. We usually use Vita coco or Lucy Bee brands. This is because they are the ones that are stocked in the local supermarket.

Get experimental with this versatile oil. I use it for so many things now. I used it in smoothies and also use it for deodorant, hair styling, moisturiser, and toothpaste. The possibilities are endless.
